Greenwood Forest Park is opening a brand new ride for 2015 called Solar Splash. Work is progressing on the groundworks for this brand new theme park ride, which will be one of a kind in the UK. Solar Splash is a water ride that will be powered by solar energy, pumping water to a height once released to propel the rider down a flume whilst sat on an inflatable boat!
More than £900,000 has being invested in this new ride, which is due to open in the Spring 2016. The 80 metre long ride includes a 12m tower that visitors have to reach via stairs. Riders then get into inflatable boats and race down the chutes that are flowing with water. Two of the chutes are straight with dips on the way down; the third is a spiral tube.
This new ride is going to be a fantastic, fun and adrenaline-fuelled addition to the new tech Attractions which we are all eagerly awaiting for its arrival in the spring next year.
The new ride has been partly funded by the Welsh Government, after the park received £250,000. The owners of the park plan to install a set of solar panels, which aim to meet 80% of the power needs of the park for the year.
The 576-panel 150kW system will save the park over £1 million in energy costs over a 25-year period, as well as providing a carbon saving of 1,700 tonnes over the same period. The system will have an educational purpose, as in addition to the 140,000 plus annual visitors to the tourist attraction, schools can also learn about how solar energy is powering the park.
Greenwood Forest Park has been ranked 4th best amusement park in the UK by TripAdvisor and 20th in the whole of Europe. The theme park is aiming to increase its annual number of visitors to 175,000 by 2017.
