There are a great number of outdoor activities in Snowdonia which are developed to provide visitors with adventurous, exciting and adrenaline-fuelled events. A popular one in North Wales is the Bear Grylls Survival Academy at Dragon Raiders, which was designed by the man himself. Bear Grylls has recently been made the Adventure Ambassador, alongside Richard Parks for Wales 2016.
A Welsh Government tourism campaign is currently set in place to promote Wales as the world’s ‘capital of adventure tourism’ and will be launched by the two adrenaline junkies themselves. On 9th April 2015, the deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism Ken Skates will be launching a series of themed years, which will begin with the Year of Adventure in 2016. This theme will then be followed by the Year of Legends 2017 and Year of the Sea in 2018.
Mr Skates has also promised to take part on a number of adventures throughout the year, including the world’s fastest zip wire in Bethesda, Gwynedd. He has said, “For the year of adventure in 2016 we’re going to work with partners to make sure that anyone who wants to can experience adventure in our fantastic landscapes and environment.
“We’re looking forward to opening a discussion with the industry after the Easter holidays on how we can work together to make 2016 a success. I will also shortly announce a funding package which will help businesses to engage with this new concept.”
Richards Parks, the new Adventure Ambassador alongside Bear Grylls mentioned, “Throughout my life the landscape of Wales has been the foundation to all my endeavours.
“From hill repeats on Merthyr Mawr sand dunes as a rugby player, pounding the trails and the roads on my bikes, to deprivation training in the Brecon Beacon and Snowdonia National Parks, Wales has helped forged the person who I am today”.
In addition, Bear Grylls is an icon for the great outdoors and is the man behind one of the greatest outdoor activities in Snowdonia – Bear Grylls Survival Academy at Dragon Raiders.
