Summer isn’t for everyone. For those that struggle with warmer weather, it can often be a bit of an ordeal trying to find suitable holidays, and finding one where you can relax and kick back without worrying about temperatures can be a bit of a challenge. There are choices though – and there are a number of accommodation providers – from lovely hotels to holiday parks with lodges for sale in Snowdonia which have set up shop next to some truly fascinating attractions, both natural and man-made.
A holiday, after all, is the experience – and there is an amazing amount of things to do in the North Wales area which is central to the Snowdonia region, making the area absolutely perfect for both short breaks and long, fortnight long jaunts. For starters, there’s a series of man-made attractions such as Zip World and Surf Snowdonia which offer a series of adrenaline rushes which we’re certain will raise the heart rate of even the most seasoned adventurer, as well as chilled, laid back days out such as National Trust’s Bodnant Gardens, which improve and improve as the years go by.
As for natural wonders, there’s so many in Snowdonia, you’ll feel that it’s a whole new world. Take Cardigan Bay, for instance. Did you know that there is a legend that the area toward Ireland was once known as Maes Gwyddno?
It is said that at 600AD, there was a city on Maes Gwyddno named Cantre’r Gwaelodd, which, other than being an important part of the kingdom of Meirionnydd, was also said to have been very beautiful – protected from the sea by a large dyke. This man-made wonder would be opened and closed as the tide moved, but one night, a man’s mistake meant that the entire area was flooded. There were an estimated 16 villages in Maes Gwyddno which were destroyed during the flood, and the poem “The Bells of Aberdyfi” (which was extremely popular in 18th Century courts!) tells of it.
There are so many more legends and folklore in North Wales, and we encourage explorers of all kinds to hunt it down.
