Work expenses are what it says on the tin. Following recent years, more of us are staying in occupations which might not really be all that ideal, for the sake of the British values of just getting on with it. 2016’s taxes have been and gone, and HMRC have raised their collective eyebrows at the rate of employee expenses claimed this last tax season, and have stated that they have no plans to remove the relief on employee expenses, but mentioned that it wanted to understand employee relief better. HMRC went on to state that a lot of the legislation could benefit from updating, and asked both employees and employers across the UK to provide input on the relief, in order to “ensure the relief is being used in the way that it was intended.”
It’s unclear whether or not the fact that figures of people claiming employee expense relief is a matter of increased knowledge or not. For instance – in the information age, people are becoming more aware of what benefits are available to them. Even the unsavviest can simply get their information from a search engine which points to the Government’s site, when before they would have had to have been told about it by a financial advisor or an accountant – but the need for accountants in North Wales has never been larger.
For instance, HMRC are keen to ensure that employees can make claims of this benefit by themselves. While indeed that sounds like a very good thing, it isn’t. There are a series of very stringent rules and regulations which apply to varying industries on a separate level, and it is very easy to make a mistake and have a claim rejected.
Having the services of a good accountant in North Wales or beyond will ensure that your claims will not be rejected, as having a professional set of eyes pointing out problems is a very desirable thing to many people – and an absolute certainty that HMRC will not dismiss your right to compensation for money you have had to spend to ensure that you can do your job properly, under a technicality.
